A Lesson in Dedication from a Rural Library

Trading for Freedom: A Lesson in Dedication from a Rural Library

Some time ago, I had the opportunity to visit a local library in a rural part of South Africa. As someone who enjoys spending time in libraries, I often seek out their peaceful environment when I need a break or some quiet reflection. There’s something about the air in a library—it feels like knowledge is hanging all around you.

The libraries I’ve visited in South Africa have been impressive. They are well-maintained, offering free Wi-Fi, access to computers, and thousands of books. On one particular visit, I noticed a young man in his early 20s sitting with his device open to a forex chart. As a trader, I knew better than to interrupt someone in their "trader's zone," so I quietly went about my business, observing from a distance.

When the young man got up to take a break, I saw an opportunity to approach him. I asked what he was doing, and he explained that he was trading the EUR/USD that day. He was very humble and open about his trading journey. He shared that he trades most days of the week and cycles from a local informal settlement to the library to access the free Wi-Fi and resources. He averages between R150 to R200 a day, which, he said, is enough to sustain his freedom.

What struck me most was his commitment to self-improvement. While taking breaks, he would grab a book on statistics or another relevant topic, continuing to educate himself. He also understood that trading success takes time, and rather than chasing every gain, he leaves some profits on the table to allow for compounding growth. His patient approach to building his account slowly but surely was inspiring.

He also shared that a couple of years ago, the employer who used to hire him for gardening work had helped him enroll in an online forex course. This employer believed in his potential and invested in his education. Once he started trading profitably and consistently, he knew that trading would be his path forward.

This young man’s dedication and understanding of how investing and trading works serves as a great example for anyone interested in starting their own trading journey. Whether through formal training with Forex College and utilizing local libraries as a resource, you can study online and trade your way to financial freedom.
